                                                                     Trail repair on Tuffy II

While showing Hootman what the Sledgehammer trail looked like,

A more challenging line, claimed a stock Toyota Birfield joint.

The only thing to do, is repair it. Found a level spot, pulled out the HI-Lift jack and removed the front tire and wheel assembly. I haven't attempted the Camo method yet, so I pulled the hub assembly, unbolted the brake caliper, and pulled the rotor.

The backing plate is next. The front tire is under the axle in case the truck falls off of the jack.

After unbolting the spindle, the axle assembly should come right out...

That is if it's still in one piece.

Scooping out the remains of the damaged Birfield.

I just happen to have a drivers side axle assembly. This will slide into the splines of the front differential.

Making sure to pack the knuckle with grease.

Alright, time to bolt it back together.

After getting carefully turned around, we headed back to base camp.

I think a good set of chromoly Longfields is in order.
